Fibre Care Guide: Wool

Fibre Care Guide: Wool

Renowned for its comfort, quality and timeless appeal, wool is one of our most loved rug fibres. While wool rugs can require a little more care than synthetic options, they reward you over time. With the right attention, a wool rug becomes softer, richer and more characterful with age, making it a true heirloom piece designed to last for years.

Wool is a natural, renewable fibre with properties that make it especially well suited to everyday living. It contains lanolin, which helps repel light stains and dust mites, and naturally resists bacterial growth. Warm underfoot and beautifully plush, wool rugs bring depth and comfort to any interior style, from classic to contemporary.

“A wool rug is a great investment to instantly add that warm and cosy feeling to your space during the cooler months.”
Effie, Miss Amara Rug Stylist

Caring for Your Wool Rug

A little care goes a long way when it comes to maintaining the beauty of a wool rug. These simple habits help preserve its texture and longevity.

Vacuum regularly

Shedding is normal for wool rugs, especially when new. Vacuum 1 to 3 times a week using a gentle, low setting to avoid pulling or breaking fibres.

Spot clean spills promptly

Blot spills as soon as possible using water and a clean cloth or paper towel. If needed, mix a small amount of mild detergent with water to create a diluted solution, then blot gently. Avoid harsh cleaning products and do not rub, as this can push the stain deeper into the fibres.

Use an underlay

Placing an underlay beneath your rug helps extend its life by reducing friction and preventing dirt and dust from building up underneath. It also adds stability and comfort underfoot.

A Note on Individual Care

This is a general guide, and every rug is different. Depending on the weave, construction and placement of your wool rug, care needs may vary.

For tailored advice on your specific rug, our customer care team is always happy to help. They can guide you on the best way to care for your piece so it continues to look and feel beautiful over time.
