Miss Amara was founded on a simple belief: shopping for rugs should feel inspiring, not overwhelming. What started in 2014 as a small idea between two founders – determined to make the process easier, more joyful, and more personal – has grown into one of Australia’s leading rug brands.

From the early days of packing orders in our office, to developing industry-first virtual styling tools, our journey has always been guided by the same principles: thoughtful design, genuine care for our customers, and a willingness to reinvent what a modern retail experience can be.

We’ve built a community of design lovers, seen thousands of rugs elevate beautiful spaces, and earned industry recognition for innovation, creativity, and customer experience. But at our core, we’re still the same team of curious, passionate people who believe in doing things differently.

And the story is still unfolding. With new technologies, new categories, and new creative possibilities ahead, we’re just getting started.

What surprised me most about Miss Amara was how connected I feel, even working remotely. From day one, the team has made a real effort to include you, check in, and make you feel like you genuinely belong – I never expected to feel so present from a distance, but that’s exactly how it is.

The best part of my role is the creative time. Starting with a blank page – sketching, painting, exploring ideas – and knowing that a rough concept can become something that ends up in someone’s home is incredibly fulfilling. That journey from imagination to a product people live with every day never gets old.

Over the past few months, I’ve felt especially supported in how trusted and included I’ve been. Travelling to Hong Kong to meet the production team was a real highlight – getting hands-on with samples, asking questions, and learning directly from people with so much expertise who are excited to share it. It made me feel part of something bigger.

What surprised me most about Miss Amara was how genuinely positive and collaborative the culture is. There’s a real alignment in values across the team, and it creates an empowering environment where people are encouraged to grow, both individually and together.

A big part of my role is creating the conditions for my team to excel. When they’re able to show their strengths and we achieve our department goals, you can see the impact flow through the business, and that’s what gives me the most energy.

A moment that made me feel especially supported was our leadership day a few months after I joined. The warehouse team and I had worked hard on a range of improvement initiatives, and seeing our founders and senior leaders recognise and champion those changes meant a lot. It felt like working with leaders who truly walk the walk.

What surprised me most about Miss Amara was how much trust you’re given, early on. I was encouraged to take ownership of meaningful projects quickly – from rethinking customer journeys to implementing platforms that shape how we serve customers globally. There’s a real appetite here for ideas backed by data and intent.

A big part of my role is building experiences that feel considered – for both our customers and our team. Customer experience sits at the intersection of brand, operations, and technology, and I love connecting those dots. When we refine a journey, improve response times, or support our stylists to better guide a customer, it quietly shapes how someone feels about their home.

I’ve felt especially supported when I’ve been encouraged to step into industry spaces beyond the business – awards panels, conferences, and broader ecommerce conversations. Being trusted to represent the brand externally builds confidence and reinforces that growth here is about development, not just performance.

I get a lot of energy from watching my team and our environment grow. A big part of my role happens behind the scenes, planning, coaching, and helping everyone feel confident in what they do. Seeing how much we have improved year on year has been a real highlight.

Working at Miss Amara is fun, a bit stressful at times, and never boring. Operations is changing a lot right now, so there are plenty of challenges, but we still manage to have a good laugh while we figure things out.
