Style Guide: Natural Interior Decor

Creating a natural interior decor feel involves bringing elements of nature into your living space and using design techniques that evoke a sense of comfort, warmth, and harmony.

“As people are becoming increasingly conscious about the environmental impact of their choices, we expect to see a rise in the use of natural materials like wood, stone and jute in interiors. These materials not only add warmth and texture to a space, but they’re also sustainable.”

CHOOSING A NATURAL RUG:

We've broken it down into 3 simple steps.

THE PALETTE:
Consider opting for natural fibres such as cotton, wool or jute in their undyed form. If you would like a bit more colour, consider introducing tones like rust, brown or khaki into your home. These hues are still earthy and natural but may provide more warmth and depth to your space.

THE TEXTURE:
Organic and chunky textures pair beautifully with natural tones. Our chunky, handwoven wool rugs are warm and comfortable underfoot, as well as being extremely luxurious! How your natural fibre rug has been woven and constructed makes a massive difference in terms of texture and feel. We have some beautifully shaggy and fluffy wool berber rugs, which are hugely different from our chunky woven wool rugs. Our jute rugs are woven tightly creating a firm and durable texture that is great for more high-traffic zones such as hallways, and our silky smooth finished cotton rugs are a fabulous choice too! When considering the different texture options, think about where the rug will be placed. You may prefer a softer and fluffier rug for areas such as the bedroom, and then opt for something more durable in living areas.

THE FIBRES:
Natural fibres are the perfect choice when trying to achieve a natural interior decor feel. Great places to start at wool, cotton and jute! Opting for a natural fibre for your rug comes with lots of added benefits too! Not only do they give a luxurious feel, but they’re also environmentally friendly, great for temperature regulation in the home, hypoallergenic properties and durability!

MORE WAYS TO GO NATURAL!

Looking for more ways to add that natural feel to your home?

USE NATURAL MATERIALS:
Incorporate materials like wood, stone, bamboo, and jute into your furniture, flooring, and decor. These materials add texture and warmth, creating a more natural ambience.

NEUTRAL COLOUR PALETTE:
Stick to a neutral colour palette inspired by nature, such as earthy tones like browns, greens, and beiges. Soft, muted colours can create a serene and calming atmosphere.

INDOOR PLANTS:
Integrate indoor plants into your decor. They not only add a touch of nature but also improve air quality and bring life to your space. Consider a variety of plants with different shapes and sizes.

NATURAL LIGHT:
Maximise natural light by using sheer curtains or blinds that allow sunlight to filter through. Natural light enhances the overall feel of a space and connects you with the outdoors.

NATURE-INSPIRED DECOR:
Choose decor items inspired by nature, such as floral patterns, botanical prints, or artwork depicting landscapes. This helps to reinforce the natural theme throughout the room.

ORGANIC SHAPES:
Opt for furniture and decor with organic shapes and forms. Avoid overly structured or rigid designs; instead, go for pieces that mimic natural shapes and curves.

SOFT TEXTURES:
Use soft and inviting textures for your upholstery, rugs, and throws. Fabrics like linen, cotton, and wool contribute to a cozy and comfortable atmosphere.

NATURAL SCENTS:
Incorporate natural scents through candles, essential oil diffusers, or potpourri. Scents like lavender, eucalyptus, or citrus can enhance the natural feel of your space.

OPEN SPACES:
Create open and uncluttered spaces. Avoid overcrowding your rooms with too much furniture and decor, allowing the natural elements to take centre stage.

PERSONAL TOUCH:
Add personal touches with items collected from nature, such as shells, rocks, or driftwood. These can be used as decorative pieces and add a unique touch to your space.

💡KEY TAKEAWAY: Remember that achieving a natural interior decor feel is not about following strict rules but creating a space that feels comfortable, balanced, and connected to the natural world. Adjust these suggestions based on your preferences and the specific atmosphere you want to create in your home.
